Mazda MX-5 (ND) 2015-Today

The current ND-generation Mazda MX-5, built since 2015, is a return to the more compact dimensions and weight of the previous generation. Mazda offers two engines, a 1.5-liter and a 2.0-liter four-cylinderPetrol. The larger of the two is more sports-oriented and offers a significant improvement in performance - especially when combined with the optional sports suspension and limited slip differential, which is standard in the higher trim levels. Despite the sportier driving character, Mazda was able to improve the driving characteristics and raise the comfort of the MX-5 to a high level. One of the hypothesized weaknesses of the current model is its relative newness, which means that it is still a fairly expensive used car at the moment.

Mazda MX-5 (NC) 2005-2015

The third generation of the Mazda MX-5, known as the NC, was slightly larger and heavier compared to its two predecessors. Mazda also began offering the MX-5 with a wider range of engines, including a 1.8-liter gasoline engine and two 2.0-literPetrol. The NC generation is also known for the introduction of the MX-5 Roadster coupe, which offered an electrically folding hardtop instead of the traditional fabric roof. This model offered improved theft protection and more comfort in bad weather, further increasing the MX-5's appeal.

Mazda MX-5 (NB) 1998-2005

The second generation of the MX-5, the NB generation, followed the NA closely and kept the basic concept of a light, simple roadster alive. New to the NB generation, however, was the introduction of more luxury and comfort features, including leather upholstery and air conditioning. Mechanically, two in-line four-cylinder petrol engines were offered, one with 1.6 liters and one with 1.9 liters, the latter offering a notable improvement in performance. Despite some criticism, such as a slightly more synthetic driving feel compared to the NA, the NB enjoyed great popularity.

Mazda MX-5 (NA) 1989-1998

The first generation of the Mazda MX-5, known as the NA model, was revolutionary. With its lightweight, compact design and emphasis on driving pleasure, it redefined the concept of the affordable roadster. Under the hood was a lively 1.6-liter gasoline engine that offered a balanced blend of power and efficiency. Although there were some shortcomings, such as a certain susceptibility to rust, early NA models remain desirable due to their simple character and high levels of driving enjoyment. It should be noted, however, that well-preserved examples can fetch high values due to their popularity with collectors and enthusiasts.
