Vehicle Documents: Shipping, Processing Time, and Costs
Once the purchase price and fees have been paid in full, CarOnSale will arrange for the vehicle documents to be shipped: the Certificate of Registration, Parts I and II, and, if available, the COC document. Shipping is free of charge for you. The documents will typically arrive 6 business days after payment is received; if financing was involved, they will arrive 6 business days after the loan has been paid off in full.

What documents will I receive?
- Certificate of Registration, Part I
- Certificate of Registration, Part II
- The COC (Certificate of Conformity), if available for the vehicle. It confirms that the vehicle meets EU technical and environmental standards.
The vehicle documentation folder, service booklet, storage media, and spare keys remain in the vehicle and are not shipped separately.
Why are the documents sent separately?
Ownership of the vehicle is not transferred to you until the purchase price and all fees have been paid. That is why the documents are not in the vehicle. CarOnSale will have them sent to you after payment is received, either by courier directly from Seller or through a document service provider that scans, archives, and forwards them.
How long does shipping take?
Seller will mail the documents within 4 business days of payment confirmation. You will typically receive them 6 business days after payment is received. As soon as a tracking number is available, we will provide it to you. If 6 business days have passed and the documents have not yet arrived, please submit a request regarding vehicle documents under “My Requests” and include the auction ID or VIN.
Is there a charge for sending documents?
No, shipping the vehicle documents is free of charge for buyers.
To what address are the documents sent?
To the address you have on file for vehicle documents, or to your business address. You can change the address for vehicle documents in your account settings. Any changes will only apply to documents that have not yet been mailed.
What do I need to know when shopping with “Buy Now, Pay Later”?
The documents then serve as collateral for the financing. A document service provider holds them until the financing has been paid in full and only sends them out after that. It usually takes 2 to 3 business days for your payment to be confirmed. You will typically receive the documents 6 business days after full repayment.
What happens if documents are missing or lost?
If only one part is missing—for example, Part II—please let us know in your inquiry which document is missing; we’ll follow up with Seller. If the tracking information shows a delivery that you did not receive, please check your mailbox, the reception area, and with your colleagues, and then contact us. If the documents remain missing, CarOnSale will arrange for replacement documents and keep you updated.
