The export credit is the portion of the purchase price that you receive back when you permanently export a vehicle abroad. It applies when the price includes a registration tax from the country of first registration, such as the Austrian standard consumption tax (NoVA). You can see the amount listed in the ad. CarOnSale will reimburse it as soon as you provide proof of permanent export.

Here's how it works

01

Explain Net Exports

For a net export, you must declare the export before payment and use a valid VAT ID number. This is only possible for vehicles subject to standard taxation.

02

Net pay plus security

You pay the net price plus a security deposit equal to the sales tax of the state where the vehicle is located at the start of transport.

03

Transportation via CarOnSale

Shipping is handled through CarOnSale; pickup is not available.

04

Regain a Sense of Security

After delivery, submit the signed CMR waybill and the confirmation of delivery. CarOnSale will then refund the security deposit in full.

Example of a net export: A vehicle priced at €20,000 net is located in Germany. You initially pay €23,800, including a €3,800 security deposit, and the €3,800 is refunded upon receipt of the required documentation. If the documentation is not received on time, CarOnSale will retain the security deposit as sales tax.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know at a glance.

What is the export advantage?

Some countries charge a registration tax when a vehicle is first registered, which is calculated as a percentage of the vehicle's value. If you permanently move the vehicle to another country, this tax may be refunded in full or in part. CarOnSale lists the refundable amount in the listing as an "export benefit." If no export benefit is listed, the price does not include any refundable registration tax.

What is the NoVA?

The Standard Consumption Tax (NoVA) is an Austrian tax levied when a vehicle is first registered in Austria. If you purchase a vehicle in Austria whose price includes the NoVA and permanently export it abroad, you will receive a refund of the NoVA portion as an export benefit.

How do I get reimbursed for the export benefit?

You pay the full price initially. The amount of the export benefit serves as a security deposit until proof of export is provided. If your purchase qualifies for a refund, CarOnSale will send you a confirmation of receipt via email. After receiving the vehicle, add your company stamp, signature, and the date of receipt, and return it as a reply to this email. Once the vehicle has been paid for and picked up, and all required documentation is complete, CarOnSale will refund the amount and confirm this with you via email.

‍

CarOnSale will inform you which documents are required in each specific case and what the deadline is. If the documents are not submitted on time, your right to a refund will be forfeited. When exporting to a country outside the EU, the export accompanying document bearing the export stamp from the border customs office replaces the confirmation of arrival.

What is a net export?

If you take a vehicle subject to standard taxation to another EU country, you can purchase it at the net price. The following applies:

  • You declare the export before making payment and use a valid VAT ID number.
  • You pay the net price plus a security deposit equal to the sales tax of the state where the vehicle is located at the start of transport.
  • Shipping is handled through CarOnSale; pickup is not available. An export fee also applies to cross-border purchases.
  • After delivery, submit the signed CMR waybill and the confirmation of delivery. CarOnSale will then refund the security deposit in full.
  • If the supporting documents are not submitted on time, CarOnSale will withhold the security deposit as sales tax, and you will receive an invoice showing the sales tax.

You cannot purchase vehicles subject to differential taxation on a net basis; no sales tax is refunded on them.

What must be included in the confirmation of delivery and the CMR consignment note?

  • Proof of Receipt: Company stamp, signature, and the date you received the vehicle
  • CMR Consignment Note: the correct FIN, date, signature, and company stamp in Field 24
