Buyer Fees: Auction Fee and Commission

As a buyer on CarOnSale, you pay an auction fee for each vehicle you purchase. This fee is based on the purchase price and starts at €79 (net). In addition, there is a payment fee and, for cross-border purchases, an export fee. A buyer’s premium is charged only in exceptional cases and, if applicable, is listed in advance in the listing. Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know at a glance.

How much is the auction fee?

The auction fee is a fixed amount that increases in stages as the purchase price rises. For example, for a purchase price of €1,000, you pay €100 net; for €10,000, the fee is €399 net. You can find the complete and up-to-date fee schedule in your CarOnSale account.

What other fees are added to the auction fee?

  • Payment processing fee per purchase
  • Export fee when Seller and the buyer are located in different countries. It covers documentation and export processing.
  • A surcharge applies only in certain cases; the amount is listed in the ad.
  • Services that you book yourself, such as transportation or an extended complaint period, are listed separately.

You can view the current amounts in your CarOnSale account.

What does "premium" mean?

The surcharge is a flat-rate handling fee. CarOnSale charges it in certain cases in addition to the auction fee when a sale involves extra work. You can see whether a surcharge applies and how much it is in the listing before you place your bid; it is listed there under the heading “Handling Fee.”

Are prices and fees net or gross?

Vehicle prices include the statutory sales tax if sales tax applies to the vehicle. Fees are net amounts; sales tax is added separately.

When do I have to pay the fees?

The purchase price and auction fee are due immediately after the purchase. Payment instructions are provided in the payment section. If a purchase is reversed or put up for auction again for a reason attributable to you, the auction fee remains due.
